Saturday Night Live is again.
The NBC sketch show kicked off its forty seventh season this week with musical visitor Kacey Musgraves, who made her SNL debut in 2018 shortly before the discharge of her Golden Hour project. This time round, Musgraves returned to Studio 8H to advertise her newly launched album, Star-Crossed, performing “Justified.”
You can watch Musgraves’ SNL performances within the video above.
Star-Crossed was launched on Sept. 10, and was accompanied by a film. The 15-track project—which included contributions from Ian Fitchuk, Daniel Tashian, and Violeta Parra—explored Musgraves’ psychological state following her divorce from Ruston Kelly, and the way the worldwide pandemic exacerbated her nervousness.
“It’s daunting to put your emotions about something really personal on display,” she told Elle about Star-Crossed earlier this 12 months. “I haven’t spoken much about this chapter, and I don’t feel like I owe that to anyone, but I owe it to myself as a creator to flesh out all these emotions that I’ve felt, and I do that through song. It would be strange if I didn’t acknowledge what happened in my life creatively, but it is scary to be like, ‘I’m about to share my most personal thoughts about me, about this other person, about a union that I had with someone.’ I mean, I’m not a ruthless person. I care about other people’s feelings. So it’s kind of scary.”
SNL will return subsequent week with first-time host Kim Kardashian and musical visitor Halsey.
