As Wale is on the verge of dropping his latest album, Folarin 2, some of his fans are nostalgic and looking back on his career. However, one fan commented on how they felt that the rapper’s alignment with Rick Ross’s Maybach Music Group affected Wale’s career rather than helping.
Fan initially tweeted how they believed Wale’s career was stifled by industry traps and poor business moves, something the rapper tweeted-tweeted and ridiculed.
The fan continued by saying that while Wale was his favorite rapper in the past, “I feel like MMG has compromised your real talent and creativity and I know you can’t give a fuck about it, I understand.” Gaya…but your songs inspired me. Don’t watch anymore, hope Folarin 2 will be the same again.”
Wale also responded to the claim, saying he thinks he’s made some of his best music with MMG. Fans stated that they didn’t think Wale’s work under MMG had depth, with the rapper retorting, citing the variety of music left during that era.
The conversation has never been hostile and Wale has only highlighted that he believes his MMG era is as important as the one he is about to enter with the release of Folarin 2. After dropping the project’s single “Poke It Out”, DC rapper J. Cole’s specialty. Fans have prepared for the album’s October 22 release date.
